Evaluation

The evaluation of Sciences 7 will be comprised of many different items. I have listed the chapters and activities in English for your convenience. Needless to say your child will be given the same information in French. Students will only be expected to know the material that we have covered in class. There may be changes with the scheduled evaluations in the event of school closures or my unplanned absence. As this is a science course, students will be mainly evaluated on their knowledge of the content. They will be expected to use proper grammer and spelling in submitted work, but their marks will not be heavily influenced by this. Here is a look at the evaluation I have planned for this course:

Find Out Activities (One per chapter to be completed during classtime) ......................10%

These activities will be completed in class in small groups or individually. They all come straight from the book, and should only take about 30 minutes to complete. I will provide them with any materials that they may require, and assist them with their activities. These activities are designed to evaluate the application of the students learned knowledge.

  • Chapter One: Salty Seeds - Sept. 15th
  • Chapter Two: Round and Round It Goes - October 4th
  • Chapter Three: Checking the pH - October 25th

  • Chapter Five: Is it a Solid, Liquid, or Gas? - December 1st

Chapter Quizzes (3 throughout the year)..............................................................15%

The chapter quizzes will consist of ten multiple choice, five true or false, five fill-ins, and two short answer questions. The quizzes will mainly assess comprehension and not application.

There will not be a chapter quiz following every chapter, as there will be a unit test at the end of every unit. I will be giving five chapter tests throughout the year for the following chapters, as I feel they have the most information and will require the most time:

Chapter One - An ecosystem is all the living and non-living things in a particular place........September 30th

Chapter Five - Scientists use the particle theory of matter to describe temperature..........December 17th

Chapter Seven - Matter can be classified as mixtures or pure substances........................February 22nd

Unit Tests (at the end of each four units)............................................................30%

The unit tests are going to consist of twenty multiple choice, ten true or false, ten matching, five short answer questions, and two long answer questions. In the unit tests I will be evaluating their knowledge and comprehension of the material through the multiple choice, true or false, matching, and short answer questions. The long answer questions will assess their application of their learned knowledge.

Unit Test #1.........................................November 4th

Unit Test #2.........................................January 20th

Unit Test #3.........................................April 4th

Unit Test #4.........................................June 7th

Workbook with completed homework and activities..............................................10%
