Homework

Students will have homework regularly.  I will post assignment details here with due dates.  I will try to post the actual assignment when possible however some worksheets may not make it to the website.

Reading Logs due the first class day of each week.

Ch. 13 Vocabulary: Due 2/22 (1st/3rd/5th/7th), 2/23 (2nd)

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students will use all 10 of their Ch. 13 vocabulary words, 12 words from Ch. 7, and 2 words for Ch. 11 correctly in independent sentences (17 sentences total).
  2. Students will use 15 words in a paragraph or short story.  8 words must come from Chapter 13, 4 words from Chapter 12, and 3 from Chapter 11.

Ch. 12 Vocabulary: Due 2/10 (1st/5th), 2/11 (2nd, 4th, 8th)

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students may use all 10 of their Ch. 12 vocabulary words and 5 words from Ch. 11 correctly in independent sentences.
  2. Students may use 10 words in a paragraph or short story. 7 words from Ch. 12 vocabulary and 3 from Ch. 6.

Ch. 11 Vocabulary: Due 2/3 (1st/5th), 2/4 (2nd, 4th, 8th)

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students may use each of their 10 Ch. 6 vocabulary words correctly in independent sentences.
  2. Students may use 5 or more of their 10 Ch. 6 vocabulary words in a sensible paragraph or short story.

Unit 2 Vocabulary: Due 1/13 (1/14 for 2nd period)  I will be deducting 10 points for each day this assingment is late.

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students will use 40 or more of their 50 Unit 2 vocabulary words correctly in independent sentences, at least 6 words from each chapter.
  2. Students will use 30 or more of their 50 Unit 2 vocabulary words in a sensible paragraph or short story, at least 4 words from each chapter.
Extra Credit Opportunity:  Students can create a 3-column chart with the vocabulary word, one synonym, and one antonym for each word.  Each synonym and antonym given is worth one point extra credit.  All words have at least one synonym but some of them do not have antonyms.  Some synonyms and antonyms may be more than one word.

Ch. 10 Vocabulary: Due 12/17

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students will use all 10 of their Ch. 10 vocabulary words, 5 words from Chapter 9, 4 from Chapter 8, 3 from Chapter 7, and 2 from Chapter 6 (24 sentences overall).
  2. Students will use 20 words in a paragraph or short story.  8 words must come from Chapter 10, 4 words from Chapter 9, 3 words from Chapter 8, 3 words from Chapter 7, and 2 from Chapter 6.

Ch. 9 Vocabulary: Due 12/10

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students will use all 10 of their Ch. 9 vocabulary words, 5 words from Ch. 8, 3 words from Ch. 7, and 2 words from Ch. 6 correctly in independent sentences (20 sentences total).
  2. Students will use 17 words in a paragraph or short story.  8 words must come from Chapter 9, 4 words from Chapter 8, 3 words from Chapter 7, and 2 from Chapter 6.

Ch. 8 Vocabulary: Due 12/3

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students will use all 10 of their Ch. 8 vocabulary words, 5 words from Ch. 7, and 2 words for Ch. 6 correctly in independent sentences (17 sentences total).
  2. Students will use 15 words in a paragraph or short story.  8 words must come from Chapter 8, 4 words from Chapter 7, and 2 from Chapter 6.

Ch. 7 Vocabulary: Due 11/19

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students may use all 10 of their Ch. 7 vocabulary words and 5 words from Ch. 6 correctly in independent sentences.
  2. Students may use 10 words in a paragraph or short story. At least 7 words from Ch. 7 vocabulary and 1 from Ch. 6, the other 2 words may come from either Ch. 6 or Ch. 7 vocabulary.

Ch. 6 Vocabulary: Due 11/12

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students may use each of their 10 Ch. 6 vocabulary words correctly in independent sentences.
  2. Students may use 5 or more of their 10 Ch. 6 vocabulary words in a sensible paragraph or short story.

Unit 1 Vocabulary: Due 11/8

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students may use 35 or more of their 50 Unit 1 vocabulary words correctly in independent sentences.
  2. Students may use 25 or more of their Unit 1 vocabulary words in a sensible paragraph or short story.
For the Week of 10/18-10/25:

Ch. 5 Vocabulary: Due 10/25

Students have two choices for their homework this week.

  1. Students may use each of their 10 vocabulary words correctly in independent sentences.
  2. Students may use 6 or more of their vocabulary words in one sensible paragraph.

We will have our pre-test on 10/21 for 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th periods and 10/25 for 2nd period.  Our vocabulary test will be on 10/18 for all students who score below 80% on their pre-test.

Future Homework:

Getting to Know Each Other Activity - (This still has not been assigned,)

Students will be given a paper bag to fill with items that represent them.  This may include pictures, awards, their favorite CD, etc.  Students will return the bag to class and share what they brought.

*Children whose parents have expressed concerns with presenting in front of the class are not exempt from the project but can present to me individually as we continue to grow our social interaction skills throughout the year.
