Personal Philosophy
I believe that every student has the potential to succeed. I believe in using positive reinforcement, building curiousity, and pushing student's out of their comfort zone. I believe that given the right support students will surprise themeselves. I believe in modeling every step of the way all year long. I believe that students must learn what kind of learner they are in order to succeed. I believe in creating opportunities to have a coming the minds, a sharing of thoughts and ideas. Most importantly, I believe that if I ask a student to write, I write; if I ask a student to read, I read; if I ask a student to present a project, I present a project.
Classroom Supplies:
1. A binder with 5 dividers. (Students can use this binder for multiple classes by purchasing more dividers).
2. Paper
3. 2 Tissue boxes (to be turned in please).
*With over 150 students, tissue boxes don't last long. I would like to thank all the parents who went out of their way to buy the tissue boxes and donate them to the classroom. This is the first year that I have had so many students provide us with tissues. Please be aware that I will also purchase tissue boxes as needed.
4. Construction paper (the boys/ to be turned in please).
5. Highlighters/ Post-it notes/Markers (choose one--the girls/ to be turned in please).
*Again I would like to thank all the parents who went out of their way to purchase these extra supplies. I truly appreciate the turn out and it will make it a lot easier to show students how to use multiple highlighters and post-it notes to enhance their learning. You'd be amazed how much students love post-it notes. The art supplies go a long way to allowing me to give students time in the classroom to work on projects. Without such supplies it gets hard
let students have that time. Thank you. Please be aware that I will also purchase art and school supplies as needed.
Divider Labels:
1. Notes/ Paper
2. Writing
3. Yellow Pages
-Yellow pages are fantastic. These are papers that students can use as a reference throughout the entire year. Everything from literary terms, to vocabulary, to activity expectations will be kept in the yellow pages. My only wish is to have enough yellow paper to make all our copies yellow pages.
4. Quizzes and reviews
5. Graded papers
-Teachers are people and we make mistakes when inputing grades. If a student keeps their paper, it makes it a lot easier to correct the error.
