ALPHABET SOUP ACTIVITY

Create an alphabetical listing that refers to something meaningful or of interest to you. (i.e. friends, family, school, summer, etc.)

Type the first letter of each section in parenthesis and they type the sentence or phrase that goes with it. Use no more than one line per letter.

Include a title.

  • The filename for the first memo is located on page 61. 
  • On the third memo, use the same font as you normally do.
  • If text is bolded and/or italicized, then the punctuation within it is as well.  However, if text is underlined the punctuation at the end is NOT underlined, but the punctuation within is--just like this example. 
  • Also, remember to include reference initials to every memo whether or not the book reminds you or not. You have until Wednesday to get them done.
  • One memo shows "enclosure" instead of "attachment".  Use "enclosure" which means the same thing.
  • Replace "xx" with your own reference/typist initials.
  • The book makes you remember more and more as the memos progress.  If a memo talks about attaching or enclosing a document, then you will have to remember to include the notation.  The same goes for copy notations.
  • When you are done, staple them in order and turn them in as one project. Points will be deducted if they are not stapled and/or out of order. Continue working on MTPro and Keychamp Software

Type MEMO24B1, MEMO24B2 & MEMO24B3 on pages 64-65. SPECIAL DIRECTIONS:  On B1 type the font as normal.  (They added the special font style to look like handwriting to get you used to typing from different font.) 

 
   4/8  Look over the returned papers to see what mistakes were made.  Learn from these mistakes and avoid them for the next assignment. ALWAYS remember to change the line and paragraph spacing on each document. All documents should have reference/typist initials.  Always remember to read the paragraphs as you are typing to see if there is a reference to an attachment or enclosure.  If so, then add the words "Attachment" or "enclosure" to the end of the memo.

  • on 45B1 - use bullets for the list.  Double space before and after the list.
  • on 45B2 - the directions tell you to include a blind copy notation to someone.  simply include "bc" instead of "c" for the copy notation.

Type:

  • LTR28B1 on page 83 - notice the margin settings.  Type their name as the writer. Remember to add your reference initials. Add "enclosure" only when an enclosure is mentioned in the body.  Vertically center instead of changing the top margin like the red box on the page says to do. Save,
  • LTR28B2 on page 84 - Save. Print out the Lesson 28 letters. Staple in order. Turn in.

  • Print  LTR28B1 and LTR28B2 if you haven't already done so.
  • LTR29B1 on page 85.  The letter parts are jumbled together.  Note the vertical red marks.  They indicate separate sections or lines of the letter.  Each time you see the vertical red mark you will need to press 'enter' then include the appropriate amount of blank lines in between letter parts. Save.
  • Type LTR29B2.  Print out the Lesson 29 letters. Staple in order. Turn in.
    • Once you finish letters from the previous class, then go to microtypewriter Pro - Purple, Blue, & Red. If you are done with your letters and the Red section, work on Keychamp then you may have the last 10 minutes of .If you are done with the Red, you may work on your own once letters are completed and turned in.  Otherwise you should work on MTPro.
    • With hyperlinks just type the link as is.  When you press the space bar after the last letter the computer will automatically turn the link into a blue, underlined hyperlink for you

As a class - Discuss OPEN vs. MIXED PUNCTUATION. What type of punctuation is used on the PB letter handout? 

On the Business Letter handout? Label the parts of the business letter by writing the terms in the left margin.

BEGIN BUSINESS LETTERS-LETTERHEAD PINK HANDOUT- Business letters are much like Personal Business letters except they do not have a return address and they begin with just the date at the top. (NOTE: A business will have a letterhead that contains the address information, phone number, etc. But, you do not have to type that information on other documents; only add the school letterhead to the example.)

AS A CLASS: Insert the lines for the letterhead on the LTR-B-EXAMPLE by:

  • click in the header, place cursor in the first line of the header
  • On the Home tab, then the Border pull-down menu, choose the Top Border
  • place cursor in the last line of the header
  • On the Home tab, then the Border pull-down menu, choose the Bottom Border
  • Close the header 
  • Double check the document is done and the footer is correct.
  • Create the letterhead from the handout. Type the Business Letter. Do not print today.

" backspace over the number until you get back to the left margin.  Then begin typing the last paragraph as normal without it being numbered.When all are done, print, staple in order and turn in.
