STUDENTS: Select your related website above, then check back to see how you can enhance your leadership skills and resume with FBLA and FTA.
TEACHERS: The full links to relevant websites are provided below just in case you prefer using the root of the site.
This site is very "rough around the edges" since the host editor panels do not look ANYTHING like the finished product. Email me if you'd like a site added.
ALL: Please have patience with this site as it is my personal "quick posting ground" for the links that I receive from listserves and research. I'm aware that the bottom frame is off from the background. I'll get to it someday. In the meantime, you will benefit from searching (Ctrl-F) for keywords you're looking for to see if I have what you need. Otherwise, the sections are shown by topic in no particular order.

Personal Finance Simulation - The Missouri Council on Economic Education has a
program called Mad City Money that is a personal finance simulation.We used this program recently with all of our business classes, and the students LOVED it! Juniors in the AM, Seniors in the PM. Even students who do not normally like to "engage" in activities were actively involved. I was surprised at how much they got into it. The best part for the students is that there is very little time when they have to sit and listen. They are quickly up and moving and going from station to station. We had just over 100 students in the morning, and about 65 in the afternoon.--Jim Elkins, CCENT, CCAI, Instructor, Cisco Networking Academy, North Technical High School VIDEO - ECONOMICS
“I, Pencil” but if you have not seen it you should.
Just a little over 6 minutes and worth every second. Here is the brief overview for the video,
“For more than half a century, Leonard Read's classic story has opened eyes and changed minds by the hundreds of thousands,
revealing the wondrous achievements of individuals whose contributions are coordinated by nothing more than incentives and market prices.” I would have to add it illustrates the basic economic concepts of productive resources, specialization, interdependence, production and distribution. What a quick way to open a class and promote discussion as well as
· have the students watch and do a quick write to see how many economic concepts they can identify;
· go more in depth and have them select another product and create a parallel description of another good that we use every day;
· research the pencil industry for what changes/innovations have taken place through the years;
· how has the market share of the pencil changed over the last decade or two?
· how has technology impacted the industry?

TEACHING SOFT SKILLS A question about soft skills was posted and here are some resources for your information.
I would suggest having the students read the articles and come up with a list themselves vs. telling them. http://www.inc.com/lou-adler/hiring-guide-soft-skills.html (especially good article)
http://www.skillsyouneed.com/general/soft-skills.html (really well written)
In addition, why not have the students define and enumerate in small groups what they think soft skills would include and then have them read and summarize?
Listening and Soft Skills References
Here's a "soft skills" module on Listening-- (from Module 5 on Soft Skills) http://profitt.gatech.edu/drupal/sites/default/files/curriculum/Soft% It's part of a big curriculum (with lots of good stuff) from the PROFITT program through GaTech--
That site has a wealth of information (including Smart goals for each unit). There are modules for Business, Soft Skills, and Computing.

Here are some resources for you: https://www.khanacademy.org/ Code Academy has a JavaScript section. They said they are updating the website so it may not be available right now. I'm in the same boat so please share if you get any other responses. I've made a rubric and
some tag questions and have attached them. We are also doing the JS Drawing etc of Khan. We are alternating between a couple weeks of html and JS. Be sure to check the links to projects instructions, etc on Tonya Skinner's website
I am using Tonya Skinners Beginning Web Design.
Go on Tonya Skinners website. She has a complete book of lessons. We use it I. Our web design/multimedia class
Tonya Skinner put together a basic web design package using html. I have attached the publisher
document she uses. I think I have most of the files on my webpage https://sites.google.com/site/lauraglennswebpage/web-design-i/work-files if you can get the box widget to appear - check for the files in the Unit 2 HTML Lessons Folder. Also The University of Washington has a program, here is the link to the student version http://www.washington.edu/accessit/webdesign/ student/index.htm. There is an instructor version that you can sign up for gain access to other items. like and am using the book HTML & CSS Design and Build Websites by Jon Duckett. I found the
book as a pdf online for free. Codeacademy.com
I am basically following Tonya Skinner's booklet that she put together from a workshop a couple years ago. The students seem to be doing great thus far! Here is the link if you would like to access the material:

HOW TO
Save Blackcat Logo - Go to the school website. With your mouse over the logo, right click your mouse.
Choose "Save as background. . " Save it in your H: drive as "BlackcatLogo".
Insert Blackcat Logo into a Business Letter Header- Open an MSWord document. Choose Insert, Header.
Choose Insert, Picture, open the BlackcatLogo. You may need to change the wrapping to accomodate the school address information.
CONVERT YOUTUBE - Download and install RealNetworks Real Player (FREE!). A logo will appear above right of any YouTube video you watch with a note to "Download This Video." I believe all videos are downloaded as FLV files. They will automatically be saved to Libraries\Videos\My Videos\RealPlayer Downloads. Real Converter is also part of the installation and can be used to convert the videos to various formats.
BUYING A LARGE-SCALE PRINTER
- I have an HP Designjet 111 poster printer. No software. I print from Word and Publisher mainly. I just have to go into the printer properties and enlarge it to whatever size I want it
- I purchased the poster maker and printer this past year with grant money. Greatest thing ever. We have enjoyed it a lot. It is the VariQuest Perfecta 2400, full-color poster printer. Here is a link to the product’s web page: http://www.variquest.com/products/perfecta
- HP Design Jet T120 InkJet EPrinter
- I have had an HP 130nr for several years. These printers typically have several print cartridges and just as many print heads. It's worth it up front to do your homework to know the total cost of operation.
- HP Design Jet T520
- Prints up to 24" x ??? (we use roll paper)
- Usually we create whatever type of file and save as a pdf. Then can print what size pdf we need. Have also printed directly from office.
- We have an HP DesignJet T790. Just got it this year with the Enhancement Grant. Love it! It prints up to 24" wide on large 100' to 150' rolls or to single sheets of paper. It is pretty impressive.
- My color laserjet prints 11x17 and it's a HP Color Laserjet CP5525. We have 3 of these in our building and they are great except mine won't print front and back with card stock without jamming but the other 2 will do it with no problems. My wide format printer is a an Epson Surecolor T5000. The print width is 36" and it is roll fed paper so you can do any length. My old poster printer (that doesn't do multiple colors) is a ProImage Plus 3000. I looked into the color poster printer they always have set up at MOACTE....Varitronics.....and ended up choosing the Epson instead. I think it was around $3500.
