I plan to use the ISTE standards for Educators in my work by setting professional learning goals. Within a year I plan to model for colleagues the identification, exploration, evaluation, curation and adoption of new digital resources and tools for learning. I plan to establish a learning culture that promotes curiosity and critical examination of online resources and fosters digital literacy and media fluency (and yes it can be done with students ages 5-9). I also plan to foster a culture where students take ownership of their learning goals and outcomes in both independent and group settings. Since I teach Title I, it is ideal for students to take ownership of their learning goals. The idea is to get them to grow as much as they possibly can within 6-8 weeks, Sometimes a child can come off an intervention, and sometimes it has to become more intensive. But when you give the student a chance to understand what they are working towards, it give them a boost in motivation!

I plan to use the ISTE standards for Students in my work by having students articulate and set personal learning goals, develop strategies leveraging technology to achieve them and reflect on the learning process itself to improve learning outcomes. I plan to make sure students engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using technology, including social interactions online or when using networked devices. I also want to have students plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other resources for their intellectual or creative pursuits. The younger students will struggle with this however, I plan to give students a few web based strategies (activities that will help them with the skill they struggle with) to play around with and then they will have to choose what they feel was the best strategy that worked for them. This will give the students a chance to take ownership of their goals!
