"Teach a youth about the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
My name is Candyce Beard and I'm a Preschool Special Education Teacher with the Colton Joint Unified School District. I teach my students everything from their ABC's and 123's to how to wipe their noses and wash their hands. I teach a lot of self-help skills like eating with utensils and potty training as well as academic skills such as learning how to hold a pencil and scribble. Everything that we do in my classroom has a purpose and teaches a skill even if all we're doing is sitting and listening to music. In my classroom everything is academic.
The reason I teach preschool is pretty simple. I love kids! I love that I not only get to be a part of their educational journey but I actually get to start that journey! Early education is so important. It creates the foundation that children will build upon for the rest of their lives. Simple skills that are so vital to learning, such as sitting and attending, are learned in preschool. Early education is even more vital in special education. Many children in special education need extra support in order to learn these important skills. I teach preschool because I care about children and want them to have the best futures possible.
