Lessons in Respect<br>

Welcome to our website

The purpose for this website is to expose students to diversity of family structures, such as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning individuals. It provides resources for encouraging discussions of topics on diversity, respect, and equality based on Common Core State Standards and California Health Standards. The goal is to provide supplemental lessons to educators to enhance awareness, respect, and inclusion of the LGBTQ community in the public school system. This would disrupt the harmful stereotypes challenging the norms of what "family" means.

These lessons were based off of the story titled And Tango Makes Three By: Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell. The lessons are based off of developmentally  appropriate materials for grades TK through fifth grade and provide additional resources for support.

As educators teaching in the 21st century, we strive to be culturally competent teachers. With this brings awareness to oppression and inequities in looking at family structures. These lessons tap into the cultural funds necessary to challenge the path of least resistance and the social and political context of the diverse family structure. Lessons were created to implement a high expectation curriculum and increase cultural pedagogy.
