Welding Neck Flanges
Their long conical neck distinguishes these flanges. Their end is butt welded with the corresponding WP22 fittings. The inner diameter of the tube is the same as that of the flange, this characteristic provides a practically constant section duct, with no possibility of producing turbulence in the gases or liquids that circulate through it. The long neck and the smooth transition of the thickness of the same, give this type of flanges, characteristics of strength suitable in sectors of pipes subjected to bending stresses, the product of the expansions in line. In this type of flanges, the tube penetrates the hub of the same without reaching the plane of the contact face, to which it is joined using internally and externally weld seams. It can be considered as simpler than the neck flange, due to the lower precision of the tube length and greater ease of alignment.
They are intended to close pipe ends, valves, or container openings, subject to various working pressures. From the technical point of view, this type of A234 WP91 flange is the one that withstands the most severe working conditions (particularly those of larger dimensions), since the stress caused by the tension of the bolts is added to that produced by the existing pressure in the pipe. In the terminals, where the warmth is a job issue or acts alternative or cyclic, it is suitable to make the closures by coupling flanges with collar and blinds.
Flanges with welding seat (SOCKET WELDING)
Its greater range of application lies in stainless steel pipe fittings of small dimensions that conduct fluids at high pressures. It is recommended its use in tubes up to 3 ”in diameter in the 150, 300, 600 series, and up to 2 ½” in the 1500 series. In these flanges, the tube penetrates the hub until it makes contact with the seat -Which has the same internal diameter as the tube- thus leaving a smooth conduit without cavities. The fixing of the flange to the tube is done by practicing a welding cord around the hub.
Although they have the characteristic of not carrying welding - which allows quick and easy assembly - they must be used for special applications (for example, in pipes where there are high pressures and ambient temperature). It is not convenient to use Carbon Steel Flange in ducts where there are considerable variations in temperature since, due to the expansion of the pipe, losses can be created through threading after a short period of work.
Flanges For Joint With Flap (Lap-Joint)
Generally, they are placed in common or special steel pipes that need to be frequently subjected to disassembly for inspection or cleaning. The ease of turning the A234 WP11 flanges, and thus aligning the bolt holes, simplify the task, especially when the pipes are large in diameter. It is not advisable to use them on lines that are subject to severe bending efforts.
