Monday 13 August:

Students shall complete the POD and then after discussing same we will engage in a short intro to the Idea of a Modern America. Complete Graphic Organizer for Chapter 8-1 and 8-2 as a part of the intro

Students shall work in groups on their Crossword Puzzles with their Glossary’s they shall then complete their reading assignments. I shall be monitoring the accountable talk by moving around the room, listening to the conversation, prompting and when needed redirecting students.  I shall ask each group to present their information to the class and monitor any discussion, ensuring that the classroom rules of decorum and behavior are maintained.

 For the closing activity on the day they shall complete the guided reading activities on Sections 8-1 and 8-2, which shall be due at the start of class on Tuesday

Tuesday 14 August:

Class will start with POD, and quick reminder of the EOC assignment for the week—Collect previous day’s work--Then will have intro from  Graphic Organizer for 8-3

Presentation Plus for Chapter 8-3 Ten Bears

Class will have a short discussion on the perceived and the real versions of what happened to Native Americans—Will introduce discussion rules at this time—

Break into groups  students will use texts to complete the Time Line Activity for Native American Conflicts—will use these to generate class chart for the wall Groups will then complete the Enrichment Activity 8—Two views on Native Americans—Complete written activity in standard short answer form—which will be discussed. I shall be monitoring the accountable talk by moving around the room, listening to the conversation, prompting and when needed redirecting students.  I shall ask each group to present their information to the class and monitor any discussion, ensuring that the classroom rules of decorum and behavior are maintained.

Overnight activity—Chapter 8-3 Guided Reading Activity

Wednesday 15 August:

Students will start off the class with the POD and a brief review of the EOC problems for the day as well.  The Overnight work will be collected and reviewed, and then the introductory presentation Graphic Organizer  & Presentation Plus Disc for Chapter 9-1 and 2 will be played after which I will lead into a short discussion about the Industrialization of the US and the costs that this levied on both the land and the people.  The Students will then be handed a reading writing activity on the Haymarket Riot of 1872.  The Students shall have an opportunity to reflect on and then answer the questions that follow in the standard form.  Following this we shall break into our learning groups to work on the Vocabulary and Crossword puzzle activities for Chapter 9, as well as a Timeline on Thomas Edison. I shall be monitoring the accountable talk by moving around the room, listening to the conversation, prompting and when needed redirecting students.  I shall ask each group to present their information to the class and monitor any discussion, ensuring that the classroom rules of decorum and behavior are maintained.

Friday August 17th:

Class will start with POD as Usual.  Instead of a review of the EOC questions of the week, the students shall engage in an assessment activity on the main ideas/concepts of the past week and the EOC questions.  Outside of the Multiple choice, T/F questions, the students will have one constructed response questions to which they must reply.  Early finishers will be given the worksheet that corresponds to the Political Cartoon of the week! Once all of the students have completed the Quiz, and they have been collected, I shall review the quiz and the correct answers. I shall be monitoring the accountable talk by moving around the room, listening to the conversation, prompting and when needed redirecting students.  I shall ask each group to present their information to the class and monitor any discussion, ensuring that the classroom rules of decorum and behavior are maintained.

 The constructed response shall also be reviewed, and the students shall have an opportunity to ask “What if I wrote” & “Would this be considered OK?” questions.  Lastly we will break into groups for the transparency activity which shall close the class.
