March 4 to 8

Music

Grade 1

  • Rhythmic Accompaniment:  The students will continue to practice accompanying songs with various percussion instruments.

 

Grade 2

  • Mozart:  The students will continue to study various musical ensembles.  This week, they will learn about duets, trios, quartets, and quintets with the music of Mozart.

 

Grade 3

  • Theory
    • Beethoven:  The students will listen to various excerpts of Beethoven’s piano compositions including sonatas and concertos.
  • Instrumental
    • pages 5, 6, and 7 of Recorder Karate
    • due to the snow day and the activities with “Scientists in the School” last week, the playing assessment will now be on Wednesday, March 6

 

Grade 4

  • Theory
    • Genres:  The students will continue to study the “classical” genre.  They will briefly visit the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century periods of music.
    • There will be a note reading drill this week.
  • Instrumental – students are to bring their instruments on Tuesday

 Grade 5

  • Theory
    • Percussion:  The students will review the meaning of idiophones, membranophones, chromatic, and non-chromatic instruments.
  • Instrumental – students are to bring their instruments on Tuesday.

 

Grade 6

  • Theory
    • Development of Western Music:  The students will continue to study the roots of today’s Western music.  The students will learn about the different eras of music:  ancient, medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic, and modern.

Computers

Grade 1

  • The students will continue to practice using Google Docs – specifically changing fonts and font sizes.

Grade 2

  • The students will continue to practice editing documents using Google Docs.

 Grade 3

  • students will continue to practice using Google Slides
    • inserting text boxes and graphics into slides
    • selecting contrasting colours to make presentations easy to read

Grade 4

  • students will complete their Google Slides presentations

Grade 5

  • students will complete their Google Slides presentations

  • students will present their Google Slides presentations

  • Digital Photography:  The students will learn the basic functions of point-and-shoot and smartphone cameras.  They will also differentiate between point-and-shoot cameras vs. DSLRs.
