How to Critique Art

Describe - What do you see? What is the size, medium, and other artistic elements? What are the obvious objects of shapes that make up the artwork?

Analyze - Use descriptive facts to state observations (e.g. "The sky has hues of pink and gray, which contrasts nicely with the light blue ocean in the background).

Interpret - Why did the artist create this artwork? What is the artist trying to convey through this piece?

Judge - Do you believe this work of art is successful? Why or why not? How does your perspective of the artwork influence what you believe the intentions of the artist are?
