Adverbs

An adverb tells how, when, or where something happens. It can describe a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Adverbs add detail and description. An example sentence is listed below. 

 

They always play outdoors. 

Always and outdoors are adverbs that describe the word play

 

A conjunctive adverb shows a relationship between ideas within a sentence. It can introduce an independent clause, connect two independent clauses, or link sentences with similar ideas. 

 

An example sentence is listed below. 

 

The team played skillfully all season; eventually, they were going to win a game. 

 

Some common adverbs are additionally, anyway, finally, however, instead, likewise, meanwhile, nevertheless, next, otherwise, similarly, and therefore.
