Allergies and Medical Conditions

Please inform the teacher of any of the following:

  • Allergies
  • Medical Conditions
  • Medications on File with School Nurse to be Dispensed during School Day

Attendance

Your child's regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. Please view school as a priority and make sure your child attends every day except in cases of illness or emergency.

If your child is absent, please make sure you send a note to excuse the absence on the day your child returns to class. The student will be marked with an unexcused absence if a note is not sent. Please refer to the student handbook, Code of Student Contact,  to see the types of absences considered excused. Be sure to include your child's full name, date(s) of absence, reason he/she was absent and his/her student ID number on the note.

Birthday Celebrations

Students love to share their special day with their classmates and their teachers. Please make arrangements with us if you would like to send a special treat for the class to be shared during lunchtime. Classroom parties are not allowed per school board rules. Please do not send balloons or goodie bags. Party invitations for parties outside of school can only be passed out in school if everyone is invited.

We also invite donations of a book to our classroom library in honor of your child’s birthday. Your child will present the book to the class and a special label acknowledging their gift will be affixed to the book.

Book Club Information

About once per month book order forms for the Scholastic Book Club will be sent home. A selection of books for fourth grade students is offered each month, at great prices. The best way to foster a love of reading is to read to them and to put books into their hands. Plus, as an added bonus, our class earns credit for each dollar we spend which will go toward more books for our room. Orders should be placed online at Scholastic Reading Club using the code HHH8H.

Breakfast

All students receive a FREE breakfast in the cafeteria. Breakfast is served from 7:30-8:15a.m.

Cell Phones

Cell phones must remain turned off and in backpack unless student has a signed BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) form and the device is being used under direct teacher supervision for a classroom activity.

Changes to Dismissal

If it is necessary to change your child's normal dismissal routine, a note must accompany your child explaining the changes, including the effective dates. Please have your child give the note to the teacher at the beginning of the school day.

IMPORTANT: Phone calls, emails, text or app messages to the teacher may not reach him/her before dismissal. If a last minute change occurs during the school day, you must contact the office directly.

Emergency Contact Information

Please keep teachers and the office updated about any changes to your current phone numbers and emergency contacts.

Field Trips

There will likely be 2-3 field trips planned for the students. Information and field trip permission slips will be sent home as soon as they are available. All chaperones are required to complete a parent volunteer form and be approved by Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Home Learning and the Home/School Communication Folder

Home learning assignments are given to help children review and enhance the skills they are learning in class. The assignments will be recorded on a daily basis in the Home/School Communication Folder. Home learning should be returned to school the next day unless a different due date is noted. Most assignments will be completed in the Home Learning notebook or on a worksheet that should be kept in the front pocket of the folder. In addition to any written assignments, the students should be reading for at least 30 minutes every day.

Flyers for parents will go home in the front pocket of the folder. Any forms or other items that are being returned to school should also be placed in the front pocket. Smaller notes and payments should be placed in the blue zippered pouch.  Please check your child's folder on a daily basis and remove any items that do not need to be returned to school. Items remaining in the front pocket after the day they originally went home will be moved to the back pocket.  There is also a section for notes/comments for each day where the teacher and parent can communicate non-urgent information.

Lunch

At the MDCPS Department of Food and Nutrition website you can find breakfast and lunch menus as well as sign up for PayPAMS. PayPAMS a secure, fast and friendly way to pay online for school meals from the comfort of your home or office. You will need your child's student ID to sign up for PayPAMS.

Children are welcome to bring their lunch from home but keep in mind we have no means of keeping the lunches cold or heating them up. (If your child does bring a lunch, please NO carbonated drinks or candy!).

Toys

Toys are not allowed in school as they are a distraction to the learning environment.
