Teacher Profile

Hi my name is Mandy Peterson. I am 28 years old and I just got married to Scott in June. I graduated from Baptist Bible College in May of '03 (Bachelor of Science in an unrelated area) as well as right after the birth of my daughter Anna in May of ‘05 (Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education). I graduated from BBC with my certification in Elementary Education K-8 in Missouri. Early on, I obtained my certification in the state of Nebraska as well.

I started local substitute teaching the August after graduation.  One year later, I started teaching at our school.  Now, I am beginning my fourth year in the school and classroom that I enjoy so much.

My goal as a teacher is to make learning something that your child loves. I use a lot of different methods to achieve that goal. I like to be as hands-on as possible in my classroom- having students act out, perform, experiment, and build things.  I like to find out what my students enjoy and incorporate that into our classes.  When a child has fun, they do not realize that they are learning at the same time.

I've heard that teachers start out teaching thinking that they are going to change the world and then they realize that they can't. I know that I'm changing the world every time one of you parents tells me that your child loves coming to my classroom or when your student smiles with pride over their hard work and success.
