About Me

A Little about Ms. McAlary…

I am now beginning my 22nd year of teaching, of which 21 of those years have been teaching middle school. But let me back up to tell you a little about me. I grew up in Manteca, CA, which is about 100 miles north of the Fresno area, where I attended local schools and graduated from Manteca High School. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Pepperdine University. Following college graduation, I went into the United States Army where I was sent to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, and was taught Russian for my job in the intelligence field. I was stationed in several states and also in Germany, from where I was deployed to the Middle East during the Persian Gulf War.

After leaving the Army I returned to Manteca and finished my teaching credential through the University of the Pacific in Stockton. I worked at the San Joaquin County Office of Education during my first teaching assignment. From there I went to a small district west of Modesto to teach English. In the summer of 1999, I moved to Fresno and started with Fresno Unified School District, accepting a position teaching English at Sequoia Middle School. In the 2004-2005 school year a position opened up at Computech teaching 7th grade Core, and that is when I started teaching at Computech. This will be my first year teaching 8th grade Core and I’m extremely excited!

I thoroughly enjoy teaching, love my students (“my kids”), and love the integrated curriculum we are able to teach in Core. Students from my class (and Computech) have gone on to attend some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in America, to extremely fulfilling careers, and to become successful and contributing members of society. I am looking forward to teaching your child this year and continuing her/him on the path to excellence and success.
