I am excited for the start of the 2010-2011 school year, as we will have many fun, engaging, and meaningful opportunities to learn on a daily basis.  The core French program is an important part of the Ontario curriculum.  It supports the Language Arts program in reading, writing, and oral communication.  In reading, students are encouraged to transfer many of the skills that they use in English into French, such as how to decode a new word (sound it out, skip it and then reread, look for root words within the word, etc.).  Junior and Intermediate students will write their own stories this year, without the assistance of a dictionary.  Oral presentations and spontaneous speech are an important component of the program, as students can practise presentation skills and increase their confidence in speaking the language.
