About Me

As many of you may know my name is Derek and I work in the Schoolage room at Bright Star. I have been working with Bright Star for two years now and have enjoyed every minute of my time their. I have been teaching in the Schoolage room since I began and have been a lead in the classroom for a little over a year. I have also been a co-teacher for the Kindergarten program over the past two years. This experience has really helped me improve my skills in the Early Childhood field. I am always looking for things I can improve upon as a teacher and anything new that I can learn to help pass on to my students. I look forward to helping children find this drive for learning in themselves each day as well.

Right now I am attending Western Washington University to obtain my elmentary education with a special education major. I have completed my first year and am starting my second year in late September 2011. I do my practicum teaching in a 5th grade classroom at Oak Heights Elementary on Tuesdays and really enjoy all that i learn from being engulfed in the education system.

Outside of work and school my wife and I enjoy RVing all around the great northwest and looking for any new adventure that we can. I also really enjoy taking my ATV's out and exploring countrysides that you may otherwise not be able to access. The outdoors are where I am able to find peace and relax to clear my mind from my busy schedule and I am so thankful to have so many options for that in our great backyard here in the Northwest.
