Classroom Policies

Dear Families,

I am delighted to have your child in my class this year. I am looking forward to teaching and sharing many exciting experiences with your child.

Believing lifelong success depends in part on self-discipline, I will be using the Clip it! Behavior Chart.  This plan affords guidance to every student in making good decisions about his/her behavior and thus an opportunity to learn in a positive, nurturing environment.  The plan below outlines our classroom rules, consequences, and rewards for both appropriate and inappropriate behavior.

     Classroom Rules:

  • Be safe, be kind, be honest.
  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
  • Listen when your teacher is talking.
  • Follow directions quickly.
  • Be Respectful to yourself and others.
  • Be Responsible.
  • Do Your Best.

smileyStudents on Hall of Fame are privileged to go into my Treasure Chest for a prize at the end of the day.

smileyThe Super Student level is reserved for outstanding behavior. A student who  reaches this level will earn a special note home, and a chance to move up to Hall of Fame.

smileyStudents can move to the Great Job level for continuing to display good behavior. You should be very proud of your child for reaching this level!

smileyStudents will move to the Good Choices level for showing that they are  making the right behavior decisions Ending the day on this level is great!

Every student will start the day on the Ready to Learn level. As the day goes on, clips can be moved up and down, based on behavior. This level is a good one to be on!

frownA student will be moved to the Think About It level as a warning about his/her behavior, and a reminder to follow the rules.

surpriseStudents who continue to display poor behavior can move down to the Teacher's Choice level. Here, the teacher can decide what action to take. Loss of recess or center time might be an appropriate choice.

mailWhen a student moves to the Parent Contact level, the teacher will notify parents via note or phone call. A visit to the Principal's office might also be in order. Students on this level may also lose recess time, etc.

Students who move their clip down will have a chance to earn it back to Ready to Learn or above by showing a significant improvement in behavior for the rest of that day.

Students who behave appropriately and make good choices will be positively rewarded with praise, positive notes and phone calls home, rewards, and/or class celebrations. A prize is given to students who earn Hall of Fame and tickets to those who stay on “Ready to Learn” and above. These tickets can be saved for a little prize at the end of each month, getting water (1 ticket) or going to the bathroom (2 tickets) during class time.

Please ask your child to tell you how his/her week was and to explain any incidences that may have occurred. It will not be necessary for me to contact a parent unless a student’s clip reaches “Parent Contact”.

I believe it is in everyone’s best interest that we work together to make this a successful year for your child. I have discussed this plan with your child. Please review it with him/her.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs. Folks
