Seen Happening in the Classroom Week 2

Please note we will review the basic phonics skills during the first few weeks of school.  Following this we will begin to have weekly spelling tests.

  • Recognize rhyme
  • Talk about kinds of pets by name
  • Learn high-frequency words (play, you, he, is, she, and, said, are, do, this )
  • Match letter d to its sound/d/
  • Match letter r to its sound /r/
  • Read “Aunt Minnie and the Twister”
  • Understand fiction
  • Understand story structure and plot
  • Match letter b to its sound /b/
  • Match letter l to its sound /l/
  • Recognize words that rhyme with –ick
  • Generate words that rhyme with –ick
  • Match letter o to its short /o/ sound
  • Read “The Tortoise and the Hare”
  • Match letter k to its sound /k/
  • Match letters ck to their sound /k/
  • Retell “The Tortoise and the Hare”

  • Place an object on a graph
  • Write the numbers 2, 3, and 7
  • Identify a circle and a square
  • Identify the number of sides and angles of a square
  • Graph a picture on a pictograph
  • Identify most and fewest on a graph
  • Identify right and left
  • Write the numbers 0, 6, 8, and 9
  • Order sets from smallest to largest
  • Identify most and fewest
  • Order numbers from least to greatest

Social Studies:

Students will…

  • Tell why it is important to respect others
  • Give examples of classroom duties
  • Recite the pledge of allegiance
  • Identify a map as a picture of a place as seen from above
  • Explain why people make rules
  • Explain why it is important to follow rules
  • Use a map key and its symbols to located and identify pints or areas on a map
