About Me

About Mrs. Merritt

Welcome to Mrs. Merritt's Kindergarten Classroom! I am very excited to share this website with you, I hope you find it helpful. This is my eighth year teaching and I am thrilled to be at Heritage! I taugh Kindergarten for two years at Heritage starting in 2010 and then I taught 1st Grade at Heritage for the past 5 years and now I am so excited to be back in Kindergarten! I am originally from Wilmington, NC and still have family living there that I visit frequently. I moved to Raleigh, NC in 2004 to attend Meredith College, where I received a BA in Psychology in May 2008. Upon graduating I returned to Meredith to obtain a Master's of Arts and Teaching in December 2009. I worked as a long term sub until finding my new home at Heritage Elementary! Go Hurricanes! I got married in October 2012. My husband and I have been married for almost 5 years. We have a 5 year old white Lab named Rusty. We also have a little boy (TJ) Thomas Joseph that will be 2 years old in September!

My Goals:

It is my goal to do the best I can to provide your child with the fundamental knowledge they need in Kindergarten to be successful in their academic career. I understand that each student is different and we all learn in different ways, therefore I differentiate my curriculum to meet the needs of my students on their level and in the ways they learn best. I have a passion for learning and for teaching. After graduating and spending a lot of hours with many teachers from all over Wake County and learning from many inspiring professors, I have lots of great ideas and ways to make learning fun and exciting for my students. It is a personal goal to make a difference in my students' lives, I want to inspire my students and help them develop a life long love of learning the way many teachers have inspired me!
