Welcome to Mrs. Pittman's 6th Grade Math Class

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to 6th grade!  This is going to be an exciting year as your child transitions into middle school.  I would like to take this opportunity to familiarize you with my classroom policies.  If you have any questions you are free to email me anytime at apittman@joplin.k12.mo.us or please call 625-5250.

Daily:

All students are expected to come to class with pencil, paper and their math folder.  Students will keep their daily work in the folder.  A simple folder with brads or a space dedicated to math in their binder is just fine.  On a typical day, students will take notes and practice a new topic.  They will then be assigned problems from the textbook.  They will work those problems on the same page they took notes on for easy reference.  If they do not finish the work in class, I will expect the student to complete the work at home and return it the next day.  You will be notified if your student is not turning in their work promptly.

Grading:

Students will receive a grade for class assignments, formative assessments (quizzes) and summative assessments (chapter tests).  You may check on your student’s progress online from the Joplin schools home page.  You should receive that information on how to access grades from the school.  Email if you have any questions about that.  I will be glad to help you.
