Reading and Writing

*used our collages to help us write detailed stories about an exciting moment

 

*began our mini-unit on Folk Tales by reading The Little Red Hen, The Ugly Duckling, and The Three Little Pigs

 

*practicing sequencing with the events in The Little Red Hen

 

*Compared The True Story of the Three Little Pigs with the original version, on a Venn diagram

 

*did “making word” activity with the letters in “dinner” and “penguins”

 

*practiced our spelling words with up to 9 various activities in Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe!

Math

*measured to the ½ inch and ½ centimeter (note: this is only done when the item measured falls between the two numbers)

 

*introduced peRIMeter  as the outside measurement of an object

 

*introduced area as the inside surface measurements of an object (labeled as unit squared)

 

*found the perimeter of letters on graph paper spelling “Be Mine”

 

*created floor plans for a house and found the area & perimeter of each room, and the entire house!

Math cont.

*compared units of measurement to find the appropriate unit for respective objects

 

*estimated, sorted, graphed, and measured with candy hearts!

 

 

Social Studies & Science

*created windsocks

 

*discovered that heat & the sun make air/wind

 

*discussed Black History Month with short biographies

 

*Watched a short Bill Nye the Science Guy video on measurement and patterns

NOTEWORTHY:

*Thank you again for the lovely orchids for Valentine’s Day! You are too sweet :)

*Otter Creek, the timed, differentiated math quizzes will begin next week! Look for more information to follow.

*Two field trips are coming up! Be sure to fill out BOTH SIDES of the permission slips coming home on Monday!!

*No School Monday, February 20, in observance of President’s Day!

*Science Fair Night, March 2.
