About Me

Hi! I am Denise Smith,  7th grade math, pre-algebra (8th grade) and art/humanities teacher. I am starting my third year at Boswell, where my husband, Gary, and our two sons, Cole and Dalton,  graduated in 1978, 2005, and 2008, respectively. Gary and I were grandparents for the first time on May 2, 2020. His name is Garon Baker Smith! And he is adorable.

I taught at Soper 8 years and Hugo 2 years. I also taught zero level algebra at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  I graduated from Hugo High School in 1977.  I am an alumna of  SOSU with a B.S. in Mathematics Education (2008) and a M.Ed in Mathematics Specialist (2015). I am certified to teach intermediate and advanced mathematics, as well as art. Side note-my first career was as a Certified Respiratory Therapist. I worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paris, and Presbyterian Hospital and Children's Hospital in Dallas. My hobbies included painting(Van Gogh is my favorite artist), crafting, reading, music, road and trail running, and strength training. In my spare time, I like to run half marathons (the next one will be my 4th OKC Memorial half in October 2020 and my 19th in all). I did do one full marathon...one and done. Not going thru that again.  I am a big fan of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Oklahoma State CowboysI like to listen to the music of the Infamous Stringdusters, Trampled by Turtles, Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson,  the Steeldrivers,  the Rolling Stones, Queen, Aerosmith, the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Marshall Tucker Band, Imagine Dragons...to name a few. My favorite musicals are "The Phantom of the Opera", "The Mikado", and "Camelot".
