OLBS offers a Response to Intervention (RTI) model for grades K-8 to help students succeed in the area of reading. Children in the RTI program work with the reading teacher in small groups to support and encourage their literacy skills. This support coincides with what they are learning in their ELA classroom. Reading growth is encouraged using games, computer programs and specific strategies.
In the early grades we focus on letter recognition and phonics. As the students grow in their reading ability we begin to work on building comprehension and fluency.
In the upper grades comprehension is our main focus and we learn about what good readers do before, during and after reading. Skills such as predicting, rereading and reviewing are emphasized.
