Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. A homework calendar will go home in a white folder. Please help your child complete each activity and return all homework in the folder on Friday. The homework folder will be returned to your child the following Monday. There will be a Progress Report Log on the back of the homework folder; it is your responsibility to check your child’s progress on Skyward Family Access and sign on the appropriate dates. If you do not have computer access, please let me know and I will send you a paper progress report.
Please understand that your child’s report card grade is not a reflection of the weekly grades in Skyward Family Access. This is just their weekly progress. At the end of each nine weeks, he/she will be re-assessed on all skills required for the report card. A new skills sheet will be sent home at the beginning of each nine weeks.
On occasion it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school. Always send money in a sealed envelope with the following information written on it:
- Your child’s first and last name
- My name and grade (in case it gets lost)
- The amount of money
The purpose for the money (lunch money, book fair, etc)
- If the money is for lunch please also include your child’s lunch number. Lunch money will also be able to be paid online this year.
If you need to change your child’s transportation on any given day you MUST send in a note or call the office before 2:00. Please do not rely on your child to tell me because children often become confused and relay incorrect messages. If no note or call is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.
If you need to pick your child up early, you must sign him/her out in the front office.
Birthdays are special occasions for young children. If your child wishes he/she may bring in treats for the class on his/her birthday (cookies, brownies, or cupcakes). NO CAKES. The treats will be given to the class at lunch. ** If you send birthday party invitations to school, please give them to me so that I can hand them out without causing hurt feelings for those that may not be invited.
Your child will be bringing home a form to order books about once a month. If you wish to order, simply fill out the form and send the correct amount of money or a check made out to the book company in an envelope back to school. Scholastic also now lets parents order online where they can pay with a credit card. I will send that ordering information home with the first order. These orders are provided as a convenient way for parents to buy quality books for their child at a low price. As an added bonus, for every dollar spent on books, our class earns bonus points that can be used to purchase books for the classroom. Please understand that you are never under any obligation to order.
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. Most kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore, it is next to impossible to “make up” work at home. Please view school as a priority and see to it that your child attends everyday (on time) except in cases of illness or emergency. Please try to schedule doctor appointments before or after school.
Dress Code Check
Please do a dress code check each morning before your child leaves for school. A copy of our school’s dress code is included in the Student Handbook. He/She needs help picking out appropriate clothing. Don’t forget your belts.
Please also send a light sweater or jacket with your child for use in our classroom. Even when it is hot outside it is cool in here.
Frances K Sweet’s School Expectations

Faculty and staff will use Star Bucks, a token system, to reward our students for positive behaviors in the classroom and throughout the school. Star Bucks will be kept in the classroom for safe keeping and can be spent on classroom incentives or monthly on a school wide event.
We will use a behavior chart to keep track of our weekly behavior. Each student will have a stick pin on our bug chart. Every week their pin will start on an A. As the student needs to be reminded about a classroom or school expectation/rule they will move their pin on the chart.
1st time A Verbal warning
2nd time B 2 minute timeout
3rd time C 5 minute timeout
4th time D 10 minute timeout
5th time F Administration involvement
Timeout could be losing time from a classroom activity, from a “fun” center, or from recess. The timeout will coincide with the specific behavior exhibited.
Students will have the opportunity to move their stick pin back towards a B, if they show that their behavior has improved throughout the day/week.
