What happens after the Home Language Survey?

 

If you answered yes to any of the 3 questions on the survey your child will be tested to determine their ability to use the English language.

The following test will be used based on the student's grade level.

-Pre- IDEA Oral Language Proficiency Test 3rd edition-Pre-k ages 3-5

-IDEA Oral Language Proficiency Test(IPT-I) 2nd edition  grades k-6

-IDEA Test II (IPT-II) 2nd edition grades 7-12

Entry Criteria Kindergarten-2nd grade:

1. Home Language Survey

2. IDEA Test

3. Scores- if the student scores as a Non-English Speaker(NES) or as a Limited English Speaker(LES), the student is entered into the ESOL program. Parents can not refuse placement in the ESOL program.

Entry Criteria grades 3-12

2. IDEA Test

3. Scores- if a student scores as a  Non-English Speaker (NES) or as a Limited English Speaker(LES), the student is entered into the ESOL program. Parents can not refuse placement in the ESOL program.

If the student scores as a Fluent English Speaker(FES) the student will be required to take the Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement II (K-TEA II) reading and writing. If the student scores 32% or lower he/she is placed into the ESOL program. If the student scores a 33% or higher the student does not need ESOL services and will be placed into the school's basic education program.
