What happens when my child is placed into the ESOL program?
All students classified as an English Language Learner will recieve academic support. Support is given in one of the two classroom models.
1. ESOL Sheltered- Instruction Classes
- This type of class contains only English Language Learners from varying backgrounds. Students receive instruction in math, science, social studies and English/language arts. The instruction is adjusted to meet the students' instructional levels. Students attend special classes such as Art, P.E. and music with Non-English Language Learners.
2. Basic Mainstream Instruction
- Students are placed into mainstream classes with Non-English Language Learners. Trained teachers use ESOL strategies to deliver instruction.
- Bilingual teachers
