HOMEWORK 3/6/17, due 3/7/17
Watch at least one of the following videos (or a comparable video) to learn how to safely light a Bunsen burner. Pause and rewatch as necessary and feel free to watch more than one video. Then, in your notebook, write out the steps needed to light the burner. (Yes, you may include pictures or diagrams.)
Very detailed, including exact order for pin valve and air vents.
Short, but demonstrator speaks quickly.
Starts with overview of safety and parts of the burner; notes written visually. Good pointers.
Simple; demonstration uses a match instead of striker.
The video at this link has a demonstration of the the lab procedure we will be doing in class on Thursday. The lab procedure starts at about minute 5:42, so you can skip ahead and start watching at that time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mi7_O07k_M (start at 5:42)
As you watch the video, record the step-by-step procedure you will perform. Write the steps in your notebook. Most classes ended up with 20 or so individual steps as we listed only one task per step. Regardless of how many numbered steps you have, make sure you have each component of the procedure listed.
Complete the following in your notebook after you have written a complete the lab procedure.
1) Illustrate your lab procedure. You must have a minimum of two labeled sketches or diagrams.
2) List the top 5 safety rules involved with this lab. (Compare with team to make a consolidated list.)
3) Copy (or paste) the data table in your notebook. It should be attached after the safety rules and should not cover up anything you have written. Make sure it is attached right-side up (not sideways). Move to the next page if necessary.
