Cancer Paper - DUE Tues 1/19/16 (or earlier)

THIS IS A REQUIRED ASSIGNMENT FOR BIOLOGY STUDENTS

Cancer Research HW:   Due Tuesday, January 19, 2016  (typed)

Find out about a specific type of cancer.

Write a 1 page (not 2, not ½, but 1 page) report that includes:

  • the causes,
  • symptoms,
  • prognosis/fatality rate,
  • and treatment of this type of cancer.

Don't forget to discuss ALL 4 REQUIREMENTS!

*Note:  Citing references means including a book’s author, title and publisher name for written text, or the URL and date accessed for an webpage. "Google.com" is NOT a correct citation, nor is “Ask.com” or any other search engine!  For personal interviews, you may include the name, job title and contact of the person providing information.

Other notes:

  • This assignment should be typed.  A hard copy must be turned in on the due date.  The teacher does not have a printer you can use, although the school and public library do. Please used standard font/margin (e.g. 12 pt Times New Roman, 1 inch or 11 pt Arial)
  • NO PLAGIARISM!!!!  Do NOT cut and paste, even if you cut and paste from multiple sources!  This is not okay to do.  If you don’t know the meaning of a word or the way something is phrased, it should not be used in work you are claiming as your own.
  • REFERENCES DO NOT COUNT AS PART OF THE 1-PAGE! YOU SHOULD HAVE ONE PAGE OF WRITING + YOUR CITATIONS PAGE.  USE MORE THAN ONE SOURCE!
  • As usual, extra points may be given for going the extra mile...

***************************************************************************************************

EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY:

Find out and summarize the following information.  Cite your references.  Include your well-formed opinion for an extra point.

  • What's a HeLa cell?
  • What's the history of HeLa cells?
  • Why is there controversy?
  • What has happened recently (in the past 3-4 years) regarding HeLa cells...?
  • Extra point: What is your well-formed opinion/your stand on the controversy?

NOTE:  For both assignments, plagiarized products will not earn points.  Also, information is expected to be correct.  Look at multiple sources!  Ask if you aren’t sure about something!  Finally, please proofread your work to avoid typos, grammatical errors, run-on sentences and other poor communication.  Points may be deducted for writing that fails to communicate effectively.
