About the Teacher
My name is Kristi Bird. I was the class of 2000 Valedictorian at South Pike High School. I graduated magna cum laude from Mississippi State University in 2003 with a degree in Elementary Education. I taught fourth grade at Kennedy Elementary for 3 1/2 years before going to Mississippi College to become certified in Gifted Education. I taught the Gifted Class at Kennedy for 3 years. While teaching in the McComb School District, I also coached the high school slowpitch and fastpitch softball teams.
This is my second year to teach CLUE at North Pike.
As your child's CLUE teacher, it is my goal to prepare them for the next level in their education and life. In my class, your child will be engaged in active learning. Research shows that active learning improves students' understanding and retention of information and can be very effective in developing higher order cognitive skills such as problem solving and critical thinking. Your child will also participate in collaborative, cooperative, experiential, and problem-based learning.
Outside of school....
I am married to William Bird, and we have a 1-year old daughter, Leigh. We are huge Mississippi State fans and attend many of their athletic events. I am also the secretary/treasurer of the Southwest Mississippi MSU Alumni Chapter. I love to attend professional sports games. When I am not at school, and not at a ballgame, you can find me outdoors mowing grass, splitting firewood, or looking for unusual rocks or arrowheads. I also enjoy cooking and painting.
