What is Acceptable use Policy?

Acceptable use Policy (AUP) is a document that outlines a set of rules to be followed by users or customers of set of computing resources, which could be a computer network, website or large computer system. An AUP clearly states what the user is and is not allowed to do with these resources.

Why do companies need an Acceptable use Policy?

Organizations of all sizes have to worry about their employees are doing with company computer equipment and internet connections. In the growing of the government regulations, civil lawsuits, and criminal charges for inappropriate online behavior, it is essential that companies cover their assets by establishing and enforcing clear rules governing computer and network usage. Policies are also needed to protect the security of the network and prevent users from introducing viruses or opening their systems and networks into attacks.
