Physical science (p)review

This unit is an overview unit on physical science.  About half of the unit will deal with basic physical things and the other half will be about science.  So here are some questions to prime your brain:

What does physcial mean?  What kinds of things are physical?  Give me some examples of things that are physical.

What is matter?  States of matter and building blocks of it will come later, but what do we mean when we say matter?

What is energy?  Again, the different forms will come later, but what is energy?  Can you give me some examples of energy?

What is the difference between potential energy and kinetic energy?  Give me some examples.

What is friction?  How can you reduce friction?

What did Galileo discover about gravity?  He dropped some objects from a tower in Pisa and learned something about the way they fell that seems strange at first.

What is terminal velocity?  What are the factors in effect an object's terminal velocity?

What was so important about Newton's gravitational discovery?

What influences the force of gravity?

What is a force?

What is science?  What does the term mean to you?

What is the scientific method?  This is the order that we use to write our lab reports.

What is the difference between results and conclusions?  Can you give me an example of a result vs a conclusion?

What is a control in an experiment?  Can you give an example?

Why do we need a control in an experiment?

Can you identify a hypothesis, a control, results, and conclusions in a scientific paper?

What steps are helpful to increase reliability of a conclusion?

What skills are helpful for someone to be a good scientist?
