Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

I am very excited to be your child’s teacher this year!

This school year will be my eleventh year teaching, ten of which I have taught in Albuquerque.   I am a Level III teacher with an MA in Elementary Education.  I am also ESL certified and have taught in an inclusive classroom setting for eight years.

As far as classroom policies go, my main goal is to make sure each child receives the best education possible that is tailored to meet individual needs.  Work will be differentiated based on students' abilities and interests.

Also, I believe in creating a safe and structured learning environment in which all of the children respect one another's rights.  There are four classroom rules:  respect others, raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat (during whole group time), keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself, and follow directions.

It is going to be an exciting year learning math, reading, writing, social studies, and science.  We will be participating in literature circles, lunchtime book clubs, writing essays and reports, learning all about the history of New Mexico, and doing fun science experiments.

Parents, you are always welcome to volunteer in the classroom.  Drop by if you wish, but if you let me know ahead of time what you'd feel comfortable doing in the classroom, I can prepare materials or give you the best times to work with students. The best way to contact me is through email: Read@aps.edu, and I will try to respond promptly.

I have created a classroom packet for your convenience.  Please read it with your student, and then sign and return the attached slip.  Keep the packet for your records.

With your support, I know this will be an excellent school year.
