Hello Friends!

We are always learning some pretty incredible things! I hope that having a weekly outline of the concepts we are learning, will help you to reinforce them at home and keep in touch with what your child is learning....I know many times at this age, they start to keep those things to themselves and it can be like pulling teeth to get them to talk about their day! LOL! Happy learning!!

READING-

This week we are working on CCSS RL4.3, determining the theme of text and using evidence and examples from the story to support our reasoning. We will be reading many picture books and having discussions so that we can learn from each other and our experiences to bring real-world meaning to the themes were are learning about. We will have notes on several of the common themes we see in our literature. There will be a quiz next week on these common themes (compassion, honesty, perserverence, friendship, courage, kindness, acceptance, prepardenss, and resourcefulness). We will do a book study on Wednesday and Thursday (in small groups). We will then go outside and present our theme with the two other homeroom kiddos (in small groups). I can't wait for the kids to be able to do this activity with the other classes (=

WRITING-

In writing class this week we are learning about the 6 +1 writing traits. This week we will be focusing on Ideas and Organization. We will be reading the book, "The Secret Knowledge of Grown-Ups" and writing our own rules AND "real" reason for the rule.
