First Grade at West

Meet the Teacher

We are very excited to meet all of our new students on Monday, August 27 from 2:30-3:15.  Please bring your child's supplies in a bag, including gym shoes and his/her Encore shirt.  If you ordered a supply pack from the school, it will be in your child's classroom.  We look forward to seeing your smiling faces!

The First Grade Teachers

Mrs. Glass is in room 8.  This will be her 9th year of teaching first grade at West.  She has three sons and a dog named Chief.  Ms. Sullivan is in room 7.  This will be her 7th year of teaching first grade at West.  She has two daughters, one son, and two cats named Mr. Chubbs and Poison Ivy.  Mrs. Winsor is in room 5.  This will be her 9th year of teaching first grade at West.  She has one dog named Suzie Q.

Paw Pride

We are committed to the four R's at West.  Students will be working hard to show that they are Respectful, Responsible, good Role models, and can put forth their best effoRt in everything they do.  When staff members see a student demonstrating one of these, a Paw Pride slip is presented to that student.  Those slips are collected in the classroom for a chance to win a prize.  Slips will be sent home after each drawing to allow you the chance to see the committment(s) your child has been demonstrating.

First grade will be a year of many firsts and your homework will be one of those.  Homework in first grade is meant to be completed with family interaction and guidance.  Thank you in advance for the support you will provide with your child's homework.  When homework begins coming home, please make sure your child is writing his/her name at the top and the page is being returned the next day.  For reading, your child should be reading for 20 minutes each night.  Don't forget to read to your child too!

Healthy Snack

Please remember to send a healthy snack with your child each day.  Pretzels, carrot sticks, or grapes are all examples of healthy items that can be eaten while working.  Please do not send any cookies, cake, or chips.  Thank you!

If your child is buying lunch from the cafeteria, please discuss the daily choices with him/her.  First and second choice change daily and are on the lunch calendar that is sent home.  Third choice is always a salad and fourth choice is a sub sandwich.  The prices for  lunch/milk are as follows:
