Objective:

Students will learn the art of revising for detail, elaboration, vivid language and other literary tools that make writing come alive.

Directions:  

 

  • At this point, you need to FOCUS in on various elements in your writing.  Look at the categories and questions below to assist you in making revisions. 
  • The picture you are "drawing with words" for your writer should be getting more and more clear. 
  • You may want to ask a peer editor to review your work.
  • Refer back to the rubric page as you write, paying special attention to all categories except "conventions."

 

 FOCUS ON THE BIG PICTURE

Ideas  
  • Is my topic interesting?
  • Do I have a clear focus statement?  (Thesis)
  • Do I include important details about the topic? 
 Organization
  • Does my beginning attract the reader?
  • Do my body paragraphs support the focus, or thesis?
  • Does my closing connect everything together?
  • Have I used transitions to link ideas?
 Voice
  • Is my writing informative and confident?
  • Do I sound sincerely interested in what I have written about?   

 FOCUS ON WORDS AND SENTENCES

  Word Choice  
  • Have I used specific nouns, vivid verbs, and well-chosen modifiers?
  • Do I explain and define unfamiliar terms?
 Sentences

 

 

  • Have I used a variety of sentence styles?
  • Do my sentences flow smoothly?
  • Do my sentences flow clearly from one idea to the next? 

 

 RECORD

  • Continue to record all of your work in your Google Doc.  (Copy and Paste, hyperlink, or type directly into the document.)
