This is a chain mail top. Chain mail is small links of metal, woven together. It is good to protect the body from sharp obejects like swords, spears, axes and arrows. They were made from metal, so they were heavy. Chain mail was hard to make, so would have cost alot of money. Only warriors and Kings would have had chain mail.
