Today we will: Begin using block coding in order to get comfortable with setting up strings. 

 

So we can: Understand the basics of block coding in order to create our own computer apps. Block coding is the crawling before we walk. Once we understand block strings, we can begin to learn Java Script. 

 

We will know we have it when: We are able to complete the Hour of Code Lessons without running into conflicts. 

 

Learning Target: I can identify the pros and cons of self-directed learning as it relates to learning code. 

PAWS: I will pay attention to staff and peers.

Activator: Go to Nitrotype or Typing Club for 15 minutes.

I am looking for:

  1. Feet on the floor
  2. Quiet Typing using both hands on the keyboard
  3. 35 WPM
  4. At least 90% accuaracy

 

I do: This week is National Hour of Code week, therefore, before we move on to our next step in programming, we will complete the National Hour of Code lesson

We do: Sign into Code.org by following these steps:

1. Goto:  Sign In Page

2. Click on Continue with Google

3. Log in using your school Google account:

Username: student number @columbus.k12.oh.us

Password: Birthday mm/dd/yyyy

4. Complete yesterday's Hour of Code and then pick another lesson to complete. You have three to choose from. Do as many as you can so that you get used to block coding.

2. Click on Create an Account

3. Click on Continue with Google

4. Log in using your school Google account:

5. Finish Creating Your Account:

    a. Account type: student

    b. Age

    c. Gender (optional)

    d. Click on Agreee to Terms

    e. Goto my account

6. Once you are logged into Code.org scroll down to join a section
