General Tips

On this page I will share some helpful tips, and I encourage you to email me any tips that work for you and your child as well. I will gladly add the input that you provide, so that the entire class has access to great advice.

  1. Focus on progress rather than perfection. Children need to know that it is ok to make mistakes. When they are afraid to make mistakes, they may give up too easily.
  2. Ask your child to tell you as much as he or she remembers about what was learned in class. Tell your child about your day, and what new thing you learned. Doing so will show your child that no one ever stops learning new things.
  3. Designate a place where your child can do his or her homework, without distractions, and equiped with the supplies that her or she may need (such as child scissors, glue, crayons or colored pencils, pencils, etc.).
  4. Check Infinite Campus and your child's daily binder daily.
  5. Make sure your child's basic needs are met. That should have healthy meals and snacks, enough rest, excercise, and lots of fun.
  6. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Modeling this for your child will encourage your child to do the same. This holds true for everything you want to instill in your child. They pay more attention to what you do, rather than what you say.
  7. Let your child help you with making their lunch. They can count the amount of carrots, or identify what shapes their sandwich is cut into.
  8. It is never too early to start with positive affirmations. Have them say things like, "I can do it." Let them hear you say these, too.
  9. Limit screen time to two hours total. *See the reference tab above for a fun educational website.
  10. Don't forget to allow your child to explore art in its many forms.
