First grade is going to be so much fun! School starts on Monday, August 22. I have been busy getting our room ready this summer for your child and their classmates. I am providing this web-page as a link for important information and helpful tips throughout the year. I hope you will find it useful for homework details and reading reminders. If you ever have questions, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at the school (235-1140) and I will return your call as soon as possible. I look forward to this great journey with your child in first grade!

All Set for Reading?
Parents can help SO much by spending 15-20 minutes each night by reading with their child. Here are some great tips to help your child with the process of reading:
- Never leave home without a book or magazine to read!
- Always re-read favorite stories or poems that your child loves. Even if they know the words by heart!
- Be patient with your young reader. Help them sound out unfamiliar words.
- Practice writing letters and short notes or stories.
- Read a page to your child and then have them read the page to you.
- Spending time exploring the world around your child is very important. Just talk with them!
Each morning we will have a meeting time where our classroom will gather on the floor for a "Morning Meeting." We will discuss our day, share "bouquets" of flowers with our friends, discuss how to resolve conflict with our neighbors, and visit with one another about our common interests and different gifts. This gathering time will hopefully produce a positive learning environment as we grow together throughout the year. I will share with you more about our experiences as our "meetings" occur!
See you in room 113!
