"The Houdini Box"

Comprehension Skill: Compare and Contrast/Predict

Genre': Historical Fiction

Students will be reading the story, "The Houdini Box" and will be working on comparing and contrasting. This will be done through mini lessons, small groups, as well as in centers. The vocabulary words for the week include: appeared, bustling, crumbled, escape, magician, monument, and vanished.

Activities for home:

*Read a story with your child (and you can put it on their reading log) and ask them to compare and contrast something within the story.

*Pick a character from a story that you read or have read and talk about a characteristic the character has that is similar to you. (Text to Self Connections)

*Review vocabulary words at home by making flash cards to match word with definition.
