Welcome to the A+ Academy Maybury Elementary 4th, 5th & 6th Grades Science and Social Studies classes!
Educational standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade. In Ohio, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school. Throughout the year, the class will be studying the following topics:
In science, 4th grade students will learn about weathering, erosion and deposition, earth landforms and surface, energy transfer and transformation, matter, ecosystems, and fossils. In social studies, 4th grade students will learn about the history and geography of state of Ohio from ancient times to present day.
In 5th grade science, students will learn about cycles and patterns in the solar system, climate and seasons, ecosystems, motion, and design challenges. In social studies, 5th grade students will learn about the history and geography of the western hemisphere, which includes North and South America, and portions of Antarctica, with special emphasis on the United States from ancient times to the present.
In 6th grade science, students will learn about minerals, rocks, the rock cycle, and soil, cells, composition of matter, changes in state, energy, motion and speed, In 6th grade, students will learn about the eastern hemisphere, which includes the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and portions of Antarctica from ancient times to the present.
