Homework for the week of February 2nd:

Looking forward to the Spring, I would love for all of my students to be part of some sort of community service project, asking them to look outside of themselves and help others in needs, as well as work as part of a team to accomplish something. Last year many of my students helped with a community garden and we donated the food grown in our class plots to a community food bank, helping those in need in our community. This year I would like to get ideas from my students. Penzu me two ideas for projects and then we will discuss them as a class.

Homework for the week of January 28th:

For example: It’s raining cats and dogs, It’s a piece of cake, Apple of my eye

3rd grade: We have been learning about how to handle our anxiety. Penzu me a time that you felt anxiety and tell me how you handled it.

5th grade: We are going to begin discussing middle school and how to be prepared for that transition. Penzu me three things you are looking forward to about middle school and three things that concern you.

Homework for the Week of January 21st:

This week’s homework relates to our upcoming character trait for February, honest. Almost all of my students are honest 100% of the time so this month it is going to be challenging picking a student who exemplifies this character trait. The assignment for this week is for each child to write 3-5 sentences about why they feel they deserve to be our February student of the month for honesty, or, if they feel that another student is more worthy of the honor, they need to write 3-5 sentences explaining why that student deserves the honor. They might want to focus on a particular instance when it was hard to be honest but they were anyway, or explain why they think it is so important to be honest. This might be a little challenging but it’s ok for them to toot their own horns J.

This week’s homework is SO easy! All you need to do is share an item that is important to you with your Lunch and Learn friends. Please see the guidelines below so you can be prepared to share.

  • Why is it important to you?

3rd grade: You will need to prepare your answers to the following questions-

Week of September 17th (Due September 24th)

This week’s homework is a little different. Instead of Helpful Hannah this week, we will focus on your first journal entry helping me get to know you better.

Please answer the following questions in your Penzu journal. After you have finished, please email your entry to me.

If you are in Kindergarten, your parents should type your answers for you.

If you are in 2nd grade, you need to try to type your own answers. You may type one or two word answers, you do not need to type complete sentences.

If you are in 3rd grade, you need to type your own answers and, you need to answer in complete sentences.

If you are in 5th grade, you need to type your own answers, and you need to answer in paragraph form. (It does not need to be as long as my sample below but does need to be at least one, 5 sentence paragraph.)

Getting to know you…..

  1. What is something you are very good at doing?
  2. Where is your favorite place to be?
  3. When you grow up, what occupation (job) would you like to have?
  4. What four words would describe you best?
  5. If you could be any animal, what would you be? Please explain why you chose this animal.

Getting to know me…. (now you get to know me better)

Patient, caring, active and helpful are four words which describe me. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to do something to help others. At first I wanted to be a veterinarian, then my focus changed to helping children. I wanted to become a lawyer to fight for children’s rights, but as I got older I decided that I would rather teach children and help them in the classroom. At an early age I was helping at home instead of the classroom. When helping my brother, who has a severe learning disability, with his homework, I realized that I was very patient and a good teacher. At the time I didn’t know it, but helping and caring for him would lead to a very rewarding career in my future!

When I am not teaching, my favorite place to be is at the beach with my family. While at the beach we are very active, playing in the ocean, boogie boarding, collecting shells, building sand castles, and taking walks at sunrise and sunset. Because the beach is my favorite place to be, it only makes sense that my favorite animal is one which loves in the ocean. If I could be any animal in the world, I would love to be a whale swimming gently through the ocean with power and grace. When I was growing up in Alaska, I saw whales all of the time. They would migrate from the warm waters of Hawaii to the frigid waters in the north. I was always amazed by the way they could propel their bodies out of the water and was in awe of their beauty. Looking back, I guess I have always loved the ocean; it is one place that brings me peace.
