Hello and welcome! I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year! School starts on August 22, but I hope you'll be able to join us on August 20 from 6-7 pm for our school's Ice Cream Social! I'll be in the classroom and would love to meet you and your child.
We have been very fortunate this year and have had many materials donated to the first grade team. As a result of our generous donations, I am able to provide a pencil box with pencils, crayons, colored pencils, a glue stick, and an eraser for each child! If your child desires to bring their own materials to use as well, that is fine. Please make sure that your child comes to school with a backpack every day. This helps ensure that important papers (such as homework) actually make it home. Since first grade has a longer day than many students were used to in Kindergarten, they often get hungry throughout the day. Sending a healthy snack or two for your child to eat at recess often helps with this.
We will be starting off the year by reviewing letters and numbers. Over the next few months, your child will practice letter sounds (phonics) and will use those sounds to read words. In math, students will learn to master addition and subtraction facts. Once we start the year, the pace picks up quickly!
I hope you will be able to join me at Back to School Night on September 5, from 6-7 pm. I will be talking about our year in more detail and can answer questions you have about the curriculum, homework, or my classroom structure. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 916-375-7730.
It's going to be a great year!
