Please solve the following equations.  Make sure you pay attention to negative and positive numbers.  We will review these on Thursday.   Turn in at the end of class with your name and class period on the paper.  Please ask for help if you get stumped or work with a partner (making sure you both do the work).  Show your work!

1.  4a + 3 = -5

2.  0.3x - 4.2 = 2.7

3.   2x + 4 = -12

4.  2(-3a + 5) = -4(a + 4)
 
5. -6x + 9 = 4(5 - x)
 
6.  4 - 7x = 1 - 6x
 
7.  7x - 3 = 2(x + 6)
 
Write the equation and solve for the next three problems.
 
Example:  Twice a number, diminished (subtract) by 17 is (equals) -3.  Find the number.
 
2x - 17 = -3
    +17    +17
      2x = 14  Divide both sides by 2.
        x = 7
 
8.  Six times a number, increased by 3 is 27.  Find the number.
 
9.  Karl's team score is 39 points.  This was one point less than Willie's team score.  Find Willie's team score.
 
10.  Three times the difference of 5 minus a number is 27.  Find the number.
