Please note that all plans are tentative. I may have to adjust the plans to meet individual or class needs. Make sure you check your child's planner daily to see what we did in class that day. Any homework will be circled in the planner.
For the week of 10/29/12
Today, we will take the Discovery Ed Benchmark test. This test will take place in all Language Arts, Math, and Science classes. This test will be used to monitor the students' progress throughout the year. Please encourage your child to do his/her best on this test.
Today, we will have a special day. We are having our Rachel's Challenge day. Rachel's Challenge is a series of student empowering programs and strategies that equip students and adults to combat bullying and allay feelings of isolation and despair by creating a culture of kindness and compassion. The programs are based on the writings and life of 17 year-old Rachel Scott who was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999. Please make sure you ask your child about this when he/she comes home. If you could, please come out to the school tonight, October 30 at 6pm for our community event. This is a very powerful, moving presentation and everyone, children and adults alike, would greatly benefit from this program. It is a free event.
Students will present their collage project. They were assigned last Thursday a collage project. They were to identify a topic and find pictures/objects that "show" this topic and make a collage. The topic of their collage represents their main idea.
Students will write an outline of a 5 paragraph essay based on their collage project. Tomorrow they will write their essay on the topic using the collage and outline.
Students will write a 5 paragraph essay reflecting their collage project.
