Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,

It’s “Back to School” time, and I am so excited to see my students!  For those of you who have not met me, my name is Deanna Barnes.  This is my third year as the music teacher at South Livingston Elementary School, and this will be my first year to add art to my curriculum!   I graduated from Campbellsville University with a bachelor’s degree in music education.  I am currently working on my master’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in instructional computer technology.  I have been married to my husband, Cory, for three wonderful years.  Cory is also a music educator!

I would like to let you know that I have high expectations for all of my students.  Music is fun and exciting, and in order for us to be the most successful, we need to remember to be kind to everyone and all materials, always do your best, and follow all directions.  I believe that since students learn by creating, performing, and responding in the arts, so following these expectations is extremely important for optimal student learning to occur.  We have several performance opportunities for our students this year.  Our winter musical this year is called, “Granny McBee’s Christmas Eve”.  This musical will be performed by our first and second graders in December 2011.  Our fifth and sixth graders will be performing in the Veteran’s Day program on November 11th at 1:00, and they will also have a spring performance.  Last but not least, our third and fourth graders will be performing (soon to be revealed).  If you would like to volunteer to make costumes, paint scenery, build props, be a make-up artist, or just lend a hand where needed, please contact me.  We need all the help we can get!

I would also like to let you know that if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s education in the arts, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone.  My email address is Deanna.barnes@livingston.kyschools.us, and the school phone number is 928-3500.  Thank you for your support of the arts in our school.  I look forward to our journey!
