Dear 3rd Grader Families,
Happy New School Year! My name is Mrs. Brown and I am honored to be your child's third-grade teacher. This is my 10th year teaching at Santa Rosa Academy; however, I was also a parent here for over 12 years. Currently, I have twins entering their sophomore year of college and a 2019 college graduate pursuing medical school. Santa Rosa has been more than a place to work, but an amazing school family.
Here's some background information about myself: I have lived in California since 1997 with my wonderful spouse and three amazing children. I am originally from Alexandria, Virginia where I earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. Additionally, I have a Masters Degree in Cross-Cultural Education from National University. For over 10 years, I was able to share my love of teaching with my own children through homeschooling, while also privately teaching other kids in the community. I truly enjoy being an educator. My overall goal this year is to provide a positive educational experience so that your child can reach their fullest potential academically, behaviorally, and socially.
This year will be amazing learning adventure for your child. In Science, we will be piloting a new curriculum filled with exciting topics such as ecosystems, animals, climate, forces, and interactions, Proficiency in multiplication, division, fractions, number sense, geometry, and problem-solving are goals in Math. Our Social Studies units will focus on California Native Americans, citizenship, and economics. During Language Arts, your child will be introduced to many interesting stories as comprehension, critical thinking, reading fluency, and vocabulary skills are reinforced. Creating narrative, informational, and persuasive writing pieces will be covered. Also, technology as a tool for learning and building academic skills will consistently be encouraged. Lastly, Character Education will be embedded in our daily goals to strengthen students' moral, behavioral, and social development.
Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get started on our magnificent journey into third grade! I look forward to partnering with your family in making this year a success.
Sincerely, Mrs. Brown
