Honors Chemistry April 13-17

Day 1: Tools You Will Need

  • If you did not bring your chemistry materials home you need the following at a minimum.
    • Do an a Google Image Search for "Ion Charges on Periodic Table"
    • You need a list of common polyatomics, follow the same procedures.
    • You need a list of diatomics, follow the same process.
    • You need to find out what possible charges can be on the transition metals.  I would write them on your periodic table.
    • You can keep them as three/four pages but I would paste the diatomics and poyatomics on the back of the periodic table.
    • If you have time today print out an activity series chart.  If not do it sometime before day 3.

Day 2: Review of Reactions

Watch the following video:

  • Video: Synthesis Reactions
    • After watching this video: can you make an inventory and balance them?
    • Note: Remember if you don’t like some person on a video I give, its ok to watch another video that explains it better for you.
    • Watch the first Synthesis Reaction, but after the first one is solved, try to do the following problems on your own. Check you work by letting the video play out
  • If you find the synthesis video too easy, try using the rest of your half hour by trying our decompositions by watching this video

Day 3: Review of Reaction (pt. 2)

Day 4: Reaction Problems

Let the YouTube do the first one but for each of the following problems pause the video and try to do the problem.  Check you work by letting the video play out.

  1. Video: Predicting Products of Double Replacement Reaction
  2. Video: Double Replacement Reactions
  3. Video:Double Replacement Reaction Practice Problems & Examples

Day 5: Combustion Reaction

Let the YouTube do the first one but for each of the following problems pause the video and try to do the problem.  Check you work by letting the video play out.

  1. Video: Combustion Reactions
  2. Video: Balancing Combustion Reactions Practice Problems
